Squalene oil is extracted via hydrolysis of sea harvested shark liver of the dog fish species. The yielded oil is purified, water washed, dried, deodorized, and molecularly distilled before being further filtered and separated between shark liver oil and squalene oil. Squalene oil is a hydrocarbon found in shark liver oil which is also a natural component of human sebum, with powerful emollient properties. This component of shark liver oil is advantageous in skincare formulations such as antiaging creams, serums, cleanses, toners, and moisturizers. Its commonly utilized in various makeup products such as lipsticks and foundations for additional hydrating benefits. In addition to the personal-care and cosmetic industry, squalene oil finds use in the nutraceutical and supplement industry, often encapsulated by private label companies, and distributed through vitamin and nutrition outlets.
