Sorbitol is a natural sugar alcohol derived from corn starch in white crystalline powder form. As a widely used food and beverage additive, sorbitol is largely procured as a no to low calorie alternative to traditional table sugar with a less sweet flavor profile. Everyday products commonly manufactured with sorbitol include sugar free soda, low sugar juice, ice cream, mints, candy, chewing gum, and syrups.

In addition to food and beverage manufacturing, sorbitol is utilized as a thickener and humectant in personal-care and health care formulations. These products include creams, gels, pastes, moisturizers, toothpastes, and other various viscous items.
