DESCRIPTION
Sorbic acid is a white free-flowing powder synthetically derived from crotonaldehyde and ketene. It is widely used as a preservative in place of nitrates and parabens in food, beverages, personal care products, and cosmetic items. As a more soluble preservative in ethanol than water, sorbic acid is added to wine, cider, premixed beverages, and ready-to-drink products just before bottling to prevent fermentation. Sorbic acid is an optimal preservative in food products that contain little to no water content such as cheese, baked goods, and processed meats. In cosmetic and personal care manufacturing, sorbic acid plays a vital role in inhibiting the growth of mold in various items such as makeup, toners, serums, sunscreen, cleansers, face and body wipes, and haircare treatments.
